What is Fibre?
Fibre optic broadband is promising super-fast speeds for all of your daily internet needs. The Fibre cables are made out of hair-thin strands of glass. Data is sent across these strands as light signals. Most internet connections send data as electrical signals through copper or microwaves. Fibre on the other hand, uses light signals, which are much faster.
How does it work?
Fibre optic cable connections use light impulses to transfer data (instead of electrical pulses) through thin glass fibre tubes. This makes Fibre cables thinner, lighter and more durable than the traditional copper cabling used for landlines and ADSL. Because the conductor used within the cables is glass and not electrical, lighting storms and other electrical disturbances will not cause interference on Fibre lines.

What is Contention Ratio?
Contention Ratio (or over subscription ratio) is the number of users sharing the same data capacity. The lower the contention ratio, the higher the quality of service. A 10:1 contention ratio means that up to 10 customers are sharing the same bandwidth at any one time.
