Previously, we have covered out of bundle charges for Data and Roaming services. The last culprit that we often see in our industry is Content Services also known as WASP Services. WASP services are mostly content-based services that customers subscribe to. These content services are vast and can include ringtones, images, weather and lottery to mention a few. Subscribers pay for these services with their airtime or they are charged on their monthly bill on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. These subscriptions are devilishly annoying as it will eat away your Prepaid airtime and run up high bills on your mobile account if you don’t cancel them.

By law, WASP service providers need to make it very clear to potential customers that they are about to subscribe to a service and what the cost implications will be. Sadly, this process is not always followed and results in mobile customers having unwanted WASP services deducting their airtime.

How can I manage these content/WASPS services more effectively?

· Continually check your account for any abnormalities

· Check your SMS’s to ensure nothing is confirming any subscriptions

· Call your Service Provider to check if you have anything activated.

Lastly here are some ways you can cancel them yourself:

Vodacom Send a message “Stop All” to 31050. When you receive a message back saying that your request was unsuccessful you weren’t subscribed to any service.

MTN Dial *136*5# and select Content Services.

Cell C Dial *133*1# and follow the on-screen prompts.

Telkom Mobile

Log into the Telkom App, go to My product, click or tap Subscriptions, and select Content Services.

There are many ways to ensure that you don’t get bill shock, but you will have to proactively manage that. As we all know our ‘to-do-list’ is always increasing and there is less time every day to manage the cost of your devices, yet you can’t go without it for even an hour.
