MWC Barcelona (formerly known as Mobile World Congress) is “the largest mobile event in the world, bringing together the latest innovations and leading-edge technology from more than 2,400 leading companies”.
MWC 2019 took place from 25 to 28 February, and the line-up of tech was, as always, something to behold.
Mobile technology, and specifically foldable devices, took centre stage at the event – here are some of the phones that got people excited.
The Nokia 9 PureView
Nokia is far from dead, and the five rear cameras on the Nokia 9 PureView really make it stand out from the crowd. Working together, the quintet of cameras can collect up to 60 megapixels worth of data, translating to images that have a more dynamic range than ever before. Some people call it the most powerful smartphone camera system ever, and perhaps even the camera phone to rule all cameras.
The LG V50 ThinQ
Foldable phones might be the flavour of the month, but LG’s flagship 5G-enabled device takes a different route. The V50 ThinQ can be equipped with an extra screen that is sold separately, allowing users to do some rather impressive tricks.

The Huawei Mate X
After Samsung recently released the Galaxy Fold to huge fanfare, Huawei added its own foldable device to the pool – and its already being touted as the best foldable phone in the world at the moment. The Mate X folds backward, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Fold’s inward folding motion, and it looks to be quite a bit thinner than the Fold when it’s not in tablet mode. However, just like when the Fold was released, the Mate X’s $2,600 price tag makes one wonder how popular these devices will really be among the public at large.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G
The excitement about Samsung’s flagship releases for the year might be over, but the mobile giant’s devices were still the ones to beat at MWC19. The Galaxy S10 5G was especially popular among visitors, easily taking the shine from quite a number of other 5G-enabled devices.
