1. TinyTap, Create & Play Educational Games
This app is sure to keep the kids entertained and learning for hours! Covering subjects like Maths, English, Art and Music, among a host of others, all the games featured in this app were created by educators. It is ranked as the top educational app in 24 countries, and gives children access to more than 100 000 learning games. TinyTap is available for download on iOS and Android.
2. Sushi Monster
Available for download from the Apple App Store, Sushi Monster hones math skills by having the kids multiply or add numbers to feed plates of sushi to a hungry monster. The app is free, and was developed by Scholastic, with the aim of improving math skills while having fun.
3. Storybird
If your child loves to tell stories, they’ll love Storybird. Although it’s not an app in the strictest sense of the word, Storybird is an online platform that allows budding authors of all ages to tell their tales and create visual stories by choosing from a vast library of images, illustrations and animations. Over 5 million stories have been created with Storybird, and we’re sure you won’t be able to resist creating your own once the kids have made theirs.
4. Pokémon GO
Winter is a time to stay cooped up, but Pokémon GO will keep the children warm from running and hunting the game’s fantastical creatures. This app takes the activity beyond the device. With Foldify, children can select a template, and decorate it with photos, illustrations and stickers. A 3D model is created and it can then be printed out and folded. Origami has never been so customisable! Foldify can be downloaded for the iPhone and iPad.
