If you’re a member of Generation X, you probably owned one of the most wildly popular toys of the time: the Tamagotchi. First launched in 1997, the Tamagotchi is coming back a little over two decades later. It has been reincarnated in the form of an app for smartphones and tablets, which is set to launch in 2018.
The firm that developed the toys, Bandai, has developed an app that allows the user to do everything the original used to be able to, on an updated interface. Whilst the new digital pets won’t be made up of black pixels, you will still be able to hatch them, feed them, play with them, take care of them and sort out the messes they make.
To start creating hype around the launch of the new app – dubbed My Tamagotchi Forever – Bandai has decided to give normal users the chance to be a part of the game like never before. Bandai has invited anyone who is interested to register on their website and enter a draw to stand a chance of being the inspiration for a brand new Tamagotchi character.
My Tamagotchi Forever will featured augmented reality features, reminiscent of the Pokémon GO craze of late, and will be available for download on both Android and iOS devices. Keep an eye on the My Tamagotchi Forever website for updates and information, and check out the video below to get a preview of what’s in store.
