The popularity virtual reality (VR) headsets has soared over the past few years. VR devices are digital environments that shut out the real world and transpose the user to a different place. With devices like these, you are able to explore an environment in 360 degrees.
These headsets have various uses and are not just restricted to use for the purposes of entertainment, although watching a concert, movie or playing a game with such a device is certainly one of the biggest alluring factors when it comes to their popularity.
Tapping into this market, Samsung has released its latest version of the Gear VR as a part of the company’s range of wearable technology. Here is what the Gear VR offers:
How does it work?
The Gear VR is compatible with use of the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, S7, S7 edge, Note5, S6 edge+, S6 and S6 edge. These mobile devices are connected to the Samsung Gear VR with either a USB Type-C or Micro USB connection.
After pairing the Gear VR’s motion controller with the Oculus app on your phone, you’ll get a feel for the controls and how they work with the Gear VR.
The Gear VR is light and ergonomically designed with foam padding for the forehead, making it comfortable to wear, and blocking out any light from the outside. A variety of straps ensure that the device is held securely in place, even if things get rough in the virtual world.
What to do with it
There are already more than 700 apps available for use with the Samsung Gear VR, and the list is always expanding. Some apps allow you to explore the night sky in virtual reality, whilst there are also a myriad of gaming apps available that let you be a part of the game like never before.
Add to this the ability to be in the audience at a concert, or explore historical sites in virtual reality, and the possibilities of virtual reality are almost endless.
