The fried chicken chain, KFC, recently announced that it is launching a smartphone in China in collaboration with the mobile phone manufacturer, Huawei.

Dubbed the Enjoy 7 Plus, this Android phone comes with Android 7.0, has a Snapdragon 425 processor, 32GB of storage, 3GB of RAM and a microSD card slot. Only 5 000 of these branded phones are being made to celebrate KFC’s 30th anniversary in China, and they are sure to be instant collector’s items.

Whilst it is unusual for a fast-food chain to put its name on a smartphone, celebrities often use their brand to launch and endorse apps. Here are 5 celebrities who have done exactly that.

1. Tom Hanks: Hanx Writer

This app, available for free on iOS, is a word processor that mimics a typewriter, for when you, uhm, hanker, for days gone by.

2. Kim Kardashian West Official App

For a $3 monthly subscription, Kim K gives you everything from photos of her and baby North, to make-up tutorials and links to buy merchandise. The app is available on Apple and Android devices. The other Kardashians, Kylie and Kendall, also have their own personalised apps.

3. Justin Bieber: Memep

Memep, available for free on Android, is an app for sharing selfies, funny photos and videos, and was endorsed by the Biebs when it launched in 2015.

4. Britney Spears: American Dream

The Princess of Pop takes you on an adventure as an aspiring pop star in L.A. in this game. Brit features in the game too, and you are faced with all the challenges actual pop stars face: the paparazzi, tours and gigs, and designing covers for your soon-to-be-a-hit album. It’s available for free on iOS and Android.

5. Shakira: Love Rocks

The principle behind this game is very similar to Tetris and Bejeweled, and centres on linking up colourful gemstones, jewels and charms. Get it for free on iOS and Android.
