The internet is filled with apps and websites that focus on images, GIFs, photos and videos. Think YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, 9Gag, Vine … the list is endless. Surely we do not need another one of these? Well, 75 million people, and counting, disagree with that.
In recent months a new start-up app called Gfycat, pronounced jiffy-cat, started doing the rounds on the internet. In one year they have managed to get over 75 million monthly visitors, almost half that of a site like Pinterest.
The Gfycat platform aims to change the way in which people share, create and use GIFs. If you don’t know what a GIF is; GIFs are those moving images that fill your Facebook and Twitter timeline. Almost like a very short video that plays over and over again.
So what makes Gfycat so different from all the other platforms out there? The main idea of Gfycat was to “upgrade the GIF viewing experience to the 21st century”.
According to the team at Gfycat there are three main perks to creating GIFs on their website:
• Speed – averaging 10x faster speeds than traditional GIFs
• Unlimited size – large GIFs or videos are no problem
• Nifty features – analyze frame by frame by pausing, reversing, slowing down or speeding up
The Gfycat platform does not only offer hours of entertainment, it also offers businesses a great opportunity. Gfycat makes it much easier for businesses, bloggers and social media users to create GIFs which they can then publish on their own website on social media pages.
The platform even offers businesses access to analytic tools to monitor the success of their GIFs.
So, what are you waiting for? There is a world of hilarious cat GIFs that needs to be viewed now. https://gfycat.com/
